My review in The Globe and Mail of two recent books by Lawrence Weschler; Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing one Sees (reissued): Over Thirty Years of Conversations with Robert Irwin, and True To Life: Twenty-Five Years of Conversations with David Hockney. Amazing books.

Here is a piece I wrote for Bookforum; eight books that taught me, when I was quite young, what it feels like to be an artist.

Reading at Type Books
This coming Thursday June 25 at 7 pm I will be reading at Type Books in Toronto, with Kathryn Borel Jr, Ryan Kamstra and Marguerite Pigeon. There will be wine. And readings. Type is at 883 Queen St. West. Here is the Facebook listing.
Why Art Here Now?
I was in New York, having a glass of wine on a patio in Tribeca and waiting for my friend Misha to show up (admittedly, I was an hour and a half early) when a nice couple started talking to me -- about my parents' age; a fella named Gordon and a lady doctor named Elizabeth. After more conversation and emails, I ended up preparing WHY ART HERE NOW? -- a show that will play at the Edith Wharton estate ("The Mount") in the Berkshires, August 1 (2009). The show will feature friends of mine from Toronto, including Life of a Craphead, a Q+A show by Darren O'Donnell, sets by Michael Bartosik, video recording by Lauren Bride, a slide show by Leanne Shapton, a reading by Ms. Kathryn Borel (who turns 30 today!), a screening of a Teenager Hamlet excerpt by Margaux Williamson, and a panel with all the artists by me.

Ryeberg
My deal friend Erik Rutherford has just launched his Ryeberg website, on which folks like me write small essays about videos they particularly like on YouTube. I have two postings already; both screen tests -- one of Dominique Swain being auditioned for the part of Lolita, the other of Marlon Brando.
